  • Custom Software Development

  • Best Practices & Methodologies

Lucra allows casual sports gamers to compete against their friends or other Lucra community members in more than 150 offline activities. The software includes community-building features such as leaderboard tracking, head-to-head stats, and multiplayer gameplay, making casual betting more approachable and accessible.

01

The Challenge

When Lucra came to us they had the first version of their mobile application for iOS. In order to raise their next round of funding, they needed to build the web version as well as a more robust iteration of the iOS application.

At the time, they were a small team where only one developer wrote the majority of the code. This needed to change if they wanted to avoid bottlenecks, and were going to level up their product and company.

02

The Solution

As we learned about the first version of their iOS application, we fixed bugs, wrote tests and created READMEs to share what we discovered with their team. This communication was essential to capturing actionable acceptance criteria and getting everyone on the same page about what each story meant and what stories to work on next. It was also crucial that we had all the same features in the web application that we had in the iOS application, so we made sure the teams did not become siloed.

Before we started the project, Lucra had just hired a few new developers knowing that they would need Artium’s help to teach them best practices in software development to create the high performing technology organization they envisioned. During our collaboration, we introduced extreme programming, test driven development and set clear expectations for the software development life cycle. We also helped hire a VP of Engineering so that they would stay on the right path after our engagement ended.

The Outcome

Just a few months later Lucra went on to raise a $10m Series A to continue their journey to change the way sports fans engage with each other. In 2023, they also began offering white-label technology to brand partners looking to add a social, gamified wagering experience that is fully customized and can be directly integrated into an existing platform or app, creating a new category of fan and consumer engagement.
