The Challenge

Stryker was facing challenges with the Android app they used in surgical settings to account for sponges during patient procedures. Built on a ten-year-old codebase with deployments of new features and fixes occurring only twice per year, they wanted extra assurance that their upcoming release would be reliable.

With just a single lead developer in the U.S. overseeing an offshore team, Stryker knew they would need outside help to do this right.

The Solution

Artium began the engagement by refactoring the Android code using pinning tests which enabled safe updates without altering critical functionalities. We also provided the team with targeted recommendations for systematic debugging and testing. This improved the overall communication between the Stryker team and empowered their developers to manage bug resolution effectively. Additionally, we supported Stryker’s .NET Core codebase in Azure for robust data handling.

The Outcome

Artium was able to ensure the reliability of Stryker’s app, which, ultimately, lead to restored confidence in the surgeons using it, as well as better outcomes for their patients.

With a refactored codebase, improved logging, and pinning tests, Stryker is now well-equipped for ongoing maintenance, ensuring consistent results in complex surgical environments.
